Medical Waste Management & Evaluation Survey

With numerous federal, state and local regulations regarding the storage, use and disposal of hazardous, medical and universal waste, your facility’s policies and procedures for these materials should be reviewed regularly. An environmental audit of your facility conducted by Lockatong Engineering examines the current policies that address compliance with federal and state environmental regulation. Our professionals ensure that your policies provide clear, unambiguous direction as to the means, methods, personal responsibility and procedures to be followed in meeting the intent of the subject regulation. After examining the policies and reviewing the practices, we compare them for compliance with the regulation’s expectations and check with department managers to ensure that all staff members are familiar with the policies and are following the guidelines and procedures. Following our review, we present a report of deficiencies we’ve identified and our recommendations for improvement.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has identified major federal environmental regulations applicable to various industries including hospitals, manufacturing and industrial; New Jersey and local authorities have additional regulations. Enforcement of environmental regulations is provided by regulatory agency field personnel, and within New Jersey, many federal environmental programs are administered by the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), which performs permit granting and most other agency functions. In fact, clean air-, clean water- and hazardous waste-related activities are the largest programs administered by NJDEP, which can conduct unannounced inspections. In some jurisdictions, NJDEP has also delegated enforcement responsibility to county departments of health, whose personnel also can conduct inspections.
